Gorilla trekking is a year-round activity. However, the dry seasons, from December to February and June to September, offer the most comfortable conditions for trekking. Rainfall is minimal, and the trails are more accessible. These dry seasons also coincide with lower vegetation density, improving visibility and increasing the likelihood of spotting gorilla families. 

What to Wear for Your Gorilla Trekking Adventure

It’s essential to dress appropriately for the adventure ahead. Here’s a breakdown of what to wear:

• Footwear: Opt for good-quality, waterproof walking shoes or boots, preferably with ankle support for stability on challenging terrain.
• Clothing: Dress in layers to adapt to changing weather conditions. Start with a quick-dry shirt as a base layer to combat humidity. Bring along a rain jacket or plastic poncho to shield yourself from intermittent rain showers. Avoid bright colors and white attire, as these can disturb gorillas and stand out against the natural surroundings. Instead, opt for neutral tones. Long, lightweight hiking trousers and long-sleeved shirts are recommended to protect against stinging nettles and insect bites.
• Accessories: Consider wearing gaiters or pulling socks over your trousers to keep sand and ants out of your boots. Gloves can come in handy for pushing aside vegetation along the trekking path. Walking sticks or ski poles are useful for navigating steeper sections of the hike.
• Protection: Don’t forget to bring along a hat and sunglasses to shield yourself from the sun’s rays during the trek.
